In June 2010, Art Stock Books (ASB) was acquired by Independent Publishers Group (IPG) through its parent company, Chicago Review Press. Effective immediately, all marketing and operations will be integrated into IPG headquarters in Chicago.
“Art Stock Books is a first-rate, niche art distributor with titles that will wonderfully complement our other distribution arms,” notes IPG president Mark Suchomel. “Publishers already distributed by ASB will immediately benefit from IPG’s operational economies and our strong sales efforts in and outside the book trade.”
Art Stock Books will remain a distinct brand with its own website (
www.artstockbooks.com) and its titles will be sold in a catalog separate from those of IPG, Trafalgar Square Publishing and Small Press United (SPU) (
www.smallpressunited.com), IPG’s small publisher distribution arm started in 2009. Titles from all lists combine for discount, invoicing, and shipping and can be ordered through IPG and its sales reps.

A Rediscovered Leonardo da Vinci
The concetto of the Virgin of the Rocks – Missed for 500 years – the concetto (draft) of the "Virgin of the Rocks" by Leonardo da Vinvi is rediscovered
Exhibited at the beginning of the 20
th century at a museum in Graz/Styria, the painting was regarded as a copy of Leonardo’s painting. Sold after the war by its owner, the Count Attems, it fell into oblivion. Art historian and acknowledged expert on da Vinci, Prof. Ernst Ullmann of the University of Leipzig, proved, with the assistance of noted Viennese restorator Ernst Lux, that the painting is in fact the concetto (draft) of Leonardo’s masterpiece “Virgin of the rocks”, existing in two Versions in Paris and London. Ullmann’s noted methodology not only authenticated the painting, but also proved the identity of the two children depicted in it as Jesus and St. John, ending the contentious debate on the subject.
